Department of Civil Engineering, R V College of Engineering is organizing AITCE sponsored two weeks training programme on Sampling, Testing, Analysis and Interpretation of Water Quality Data from 7th to 18th of December 2009.

INSTITUTION

R V College of Engineering (RVCE) Established in 1963 by the Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust (RSST) with three engineering branches, today being an autonomous institution offers 12 graduate engineering programmes, 17 Master degree programmes. The mission of the founder was to 'Impart Quality Education to all sections of the Society'. In today's global context, the brand 'RV' immediately brings to one's mind a class of young achievers in enterprise, information technology, industry and research and it is because of the flagship institution of RSST.

DEPARTMENT

The Department of Civil Engineering was started in the year 1963. The Civil Engineering branch is one of the three oldest branches have been functioning right from the inception of the institution. Now the Department is running M.Tech programme in Structural Engineering and in Highway Technology. In the view of improving the quality of education by incorporating the new technologies in curriculum and R&D activities in the field of Remote sensing and GIS the department has established RV- ISRO Space Application Center (RV-ISRO Space) funded by ISRO/DOS in 2009.The department is very active in R&D and consultancy activities. The department has CAL-TECH a research center which mainly focuses research on the use of fly ash, slag, silica fumes, pond ash etc. Center for Water Resources Engineering (CWRE) which focuses on management of water resources, rainwater harvesting etc. Rainwater harvesting system has been implemented in the RVCE campus by (CWRE). A new Air quality management monitoring station is in operation in RVCE campus funded by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), MoEF, New Delhi. The department is recognized by Govt. of Karnataka as resource centre for Panchayath Raj and Rural Development, Indian Railway as the authorized laboratory for testing track materials, by BBMP as third party independent inspection team for Quality Control of Works.

TRAINING PROGRAMME

Analysis of water quality is a very important aspect. There are many advanced equipments available to analyze the very minute quantity of pollutants which are present in the water. Analysis of some of these parameters are required to follow very complicated and inaccurate procedures in the traditional methods of analysis. Using the advanced equipments we can get accurate results by following simple methods.

The training programme mainly concentrate on practical aspects of water quality analysis starting from collection methods, preservation, analysis using advanced equipments and also interpretation of the same with respect to various water quality requirements. In the proposed training programme usage of advanced instruments such as atomic absorption spectrophotometer, High performance liquid crystallography, Gas chromatography, UV spectrophotometer, Flame photometer and many other digital equipments are introduced and hands on training will be given to the teachers. It will greatly help them in pursuing research work in the various fields of water quality
