Department of Chemistry
About the Department
Department of chemistry has started in the year 1963
Courses Taught
- Applied Chemistry (Theory and Practicals) for all branches of Engineering
- Technical Chemistry (Theory and Practicals) for chemical Engineering III & IV Semesters.
Mission
To feed the budding engineers with finer aspects of science which make them to understand, exploit and innovate, thus contributing to the future technological advancements.
Vision
- To encourage the inquisitiveness in students and make them to understand the fundamentals of science & technology
- To inform the students of the latest development in science so that they can exploit it for development of technology.
- To inculcate the research attitude in a student so that he could be an innovator or inventor of tomorrow.
Department Long Term Goals
- To build up the department potentially to embark upon research along with academics and motivating the faculty towards high end research projects.
- To encourage the faculty to supervise projects for chemical engineering students.
- To computerize the departments providing systems to the individual teachers; net working and provide Internet facility to access knowledge based wherever it is available (other libraries and websites).
- To facilitate the faculty to enhance their knowledge & skills, the required internet accessibility is provided.
- To train the faculty and technical staff to utilize and develop effective teaching-learning modules and to adopt the modern trends in Education Technology concepts and media.
- To update the department library to digital / E-library with relevant collections of CD's for use by students and teachers.
- To encourage teachers to actively take part in arranging National and International level workshops, seminars and conferences.
- To modernize the laboratories in tune with the needs, supporting the students in their projects.
- To provide co guidance along with engineering faculty to the final year students for projects.
Department Short Term Goals
- The academic input necessary for achieving best results
- Training the students in theory and lab for a complete understanding of the subject.
- To modernize the research laboratories to take up innovative projects.
About the Department
Department of chemistry is handling Applied chemistry (theory & practical) for classes of I & II semester Engineering (all branches) and Technical Chemistry (theory & practical) for III rd and IV semester Chemical engineering students and guiding the projects to chemical engineering students
Department produces very high percentage of results every year and maintaining the figure at almost 99-100 %
The Department has faculty strength of nine constituting two Professors & seven Assistant Professors. Four of them posses Ph.D .degree and one M. Phil. Senior staff members in the department with their vast experience are able to guide the students effectively in their studies. Some of the members have presented research papers in India and abroad, which are considered to be prestigious with respect to SCIENCE faculty. Research papers are also published in National and International Journals. Text books were published. Staff members are encouraged in their research activities and permitted to participate in various National and International conferences in India and abroad. A center for advanced polymer materials has been set up in the department of chemistry under the Directorship of Dr.K.Natarajan Professor & Head of Chemistry.
The laboratory has patented Cable seal technology. The laboratory has made out an invention on polymer sealing product which has brought world wide recognition by winning NRDC award during 2004 & got Indian patent granted. One more patent has been filed in connection with a new catalyst developed. The department has conducted three National level conferences on Futuristic polymer materials during -2005, 2008 & 2010. Further Faculty Development Programme was also conducted in Feb2011.
Department also contributes towards other Co-curricular and extracurricular activities on the campus through Science Forum, Kannada Sangha , Etc
