About Library

Circulation CounterThe RVCE Library consists of a Central Library and 12 departmental libraries which collectively support the teaching, research and extension programmes of the Institute. All students, faculty members of the Institute are entitled to make use of the Library facilities on taking library membership. The Library, besides having a huge collection of books on engineering, science and humanities offers library services through its various Divisions. Initially setup in 1963, the Central Library moved to its new independent building in FEB, 1989.

Library serves as a resource center and aims to develop a comprehensive collection of document’s useful for faculty and students of the institute and provides an efficient dissemination of knowledge.

Vision

Library aims to be best among engineering college libraries in the country. Library intends to incorporate the latest technology and adopt user friendly approach towards students and faculty. Library intends to offer comprehensive services related to dissemination of knowledge.

Short term goals

To serve the academic needs of all students and faculty members. As a center for collection of books and Journals of all related subjects to develop a comprehensive collection of information required for teaching and reference purpose. To acquire, organize Information resources to meet the present and future needs of its users.

Long term goal

Developing a consortium of all Engineering college libraries with resource sharing and networking

Library Computerization

The Library uses Smart Campus software package which is an integrated multi-user library management system that supports all in-house operations of the Library. The Smart Campus consists of modules on acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, serials, article indexing and OPAC. Retrospective conversion of bibliographic records has been completed and more than 63058 bibliographic records of books available in the Library, can now be accessed through the Smart Campus OPAC. The database of books available in the Library is being updated on day to day basis with details of recently acquired books. The editing and updating activities are in progress.

The Idenizen Smart Campus package has been successfully implemented.

Bar Code-based Circulation System

The Smart Campus package has been successfully implemented for the circulation activities, by using the barcode. All the books of library are bar-coded.

  • Study room books issued for overnight, one hour before closing of the library on all days

In the proximity of the library building the institution has set up browsing centre with requisite infrastructure.
