About the Course
Preamble
The School of Architecture, RVCE, started in 1992, has developed into a nationally recognised centre of learning for architectural education.
|
Indian cities are in the midst of unprecedented growth in terms of physical infrastructure. Exposure to planning and design of such growth will give the much needed inputs to the students, who would be involved in translating India's economic growth into physical environment. The core academic content of the course will be the studio which would be an expansion of the architectural studio model with its approach of "ground up" rather than the master plan approach of "top down". The inter-disciplinary nature of urban design will be highlighted with the necessary course work, but the critical pedagogical tool would continue to be design. |
Objectives
|
The Masters program offers an engaging discourse between Theory, Practice and Research. Theory encompasses the current theoretical positions on urban design as well as architecture. It would also look at the historical precedents of built environment in India and across the world and address the issues of the methods in documentation, interpretation and analysis of physical environment. The program intends to engage a discourse on urban studies with a strong sociological and environmental perspective to evolve a contemporary vocabulary of planning and design attitudeThe studio cycle, spread over four semesters, is aimed at imparting tools, skills and strategies to design large scale urban design projects in varied conditions. Constant didactical relation with the theory, history and contemporary processes would be the core strength of the course and will set it apart from similar courses elsewhere. . The School has rendered Urban Design Consultancy services to BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike). |
