Department of Mathematics

About the Department

From the Desk of Prof.Dr.N.Shivakumar, HoD (Mathematics)

The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1963. In the first year the Department of Mathematics (DOM for short) taught 120 students. The number of students grew in leaps and bounds year after year and now after its existence of over 4 decades the DOM has to its credit to have taught during the last 5 academic years over 7000 students. Beginning with a modest strength of three members in its first year of inception the DOM has grown in strength and now boasts of having eighteen (18) faculty members of which 5 faculty members are with Ph. D. degree and six faculty  are pursuing their Ph. D. degree. The DOM is involved with teaching activities for UG / PG / global electives and it is recognized research centre for doing PhD in Mathematics under VTU, the affiliating University. Under this research centre, faculty members are undertaking funded research projects and consultancy work , publishing research papers in referred journals,  organizing workshops and conferences.

Welcome to our Department !

Vision

  • Strive to achieve global identity through  innovative methods and  constant efforts for the betterment of the students community

Mission

  • Guidance by expert faculty and opportunities for acquiring the state of art knowledge enable the students to face the fast changing world of Technology and Management, through in depth teaching of Mathematics to engineering students
  • Working as a vibrant and model department  of excellence in imparting quality education in the areas of  various domains of Mathematics
  • Orienting the aspiring students and scholars  for an overall development to enable them to meet the ever growing challenges of the global society with mathematical tools

Long Term Goals.

  • To make every faculty attain PhD thro' research centre facility
  • To establish centre of mathematical modeling and incubation centers
  • To Introduce new courses as elective subjects in tune with state-of-art technology
  • To organize International / National conferences periodically
  • To focus more on research with industrial projects handling

Department Short Term Goals.

  • To introduce more electives in UG Programs
  • To achieve 100% pass in the next 5 years
  • To have more Ph.D. qualified faculty
  • To take-up R&D and Consultancy activities
  • To have at least 20 research paper publications by the faculty members yearly
  • To take up DST / AICTE sponsored projects, jointly with engineering departments

The Department conducts courses on Engineering Mathematics, Discrete Mathematics, Graph Theory and Combinatorics, Numerical Methods and Linear Algebra for UG and PG classes. Bridge courses are conducted for Diploma Students. Weak students are identified and special classes are conducted for them to enable them to perform well. As a result of the sincere effort of the DOM team, the department has been consistently obtaining excellent results, with many students scoring 100 % in their mathematics paper.

Industry TIUP

Stepping out of its curricular activities the DOM has stamped its mark in the industrial sector. It has been successfully undertaking teaching assignments for LRDE a DRDO unit to equip its chosen staff to prepare themselves to take up AMIETE, a requirement to climb the ladder of promotion.
