M.Tech in Information Technology was started in the Department of Information Science in the year 2007. The course is approved by AICTE, State government and is affiliated to Visveswaraya Technological University, Karnataka. The program is designed by keeping in mind the job opportunities for engineering graduates in various Software Industries. With the world going digital, the need for professionals in the field is growing by leaps and bounds. The future holds great expectations for the computer professional, especially people with M.Tech.(IT) as it provides the highest level of IT knowledge to analyze and provide solution through IT.

The course curriculum involves study of Data Structures, Algorithms, Computer Networks, Object Orientated Programming, Database Management, Data Warehousing and Mining, Client Server Programming, etc. Students also get exposure to industry setup laboratories enabled by MindTree, Samsung and Infosys.

Eligibility: Candidates who have acquired BE/B.Tech/AMIE degree in any Branch of Engineering (Excluding Computer Science & Engg. and Information Science & Engg.) by securing not less than 50% marks in aggregate. However in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Group 1 aggregate percent of marks in qualifying examination should not be less than 45%. The admissions are through central counseling on the basis of merit in PGCET or GATE. GATE qualified candidates are eligible for scholarship through AICTE. A few seats are also available for sponsored and Management candidates.

Infrastructure: The department has PG & Research Lab to support the program and students can work on Database Management Systems, Web Programming Lab, Data Structures Lab, Unix Programming Labs. Major softwares include Matlab, Visual Studio, MySQL, Selenium, NetSim.

Areas of Research: The students will get an opportunity to participate in projects related to, but not limited to: Database implementation & administration, Data Mining & Network Security, Storage Area Networks, Computer Network & Information Security and Image Processing.
