About the Department

The department of Physical Education & sports was established in 1963. The department has undergone NBA accreditation in the year 2006. It is also affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum.

Sports GroundTo provide adequate Physical Education facilities and Programme that are wholesome and attractive so as to enshrine sound mind in a sound body..

Vision

  • To provide adequate infrastructure facilities for sports and games so that students choose and participate in the events for which they have flair. To spot and groom the sports talent. To foster, better human relations through sports and games.
  • To imbibe in the students discipline, leadership qualities, courage and the sense of belonging through sports activities. To train the students to receive success and defeat equanimously.

To produce National & International players, by providing hi-tech sports facilities to the students. To attain the top most position in sports arena of the university colleges in our state or country.

History

Ever since the establishment, the department has produced many national and international level players. PADMASHREE. ANIL KUMBLE, Indian team cricket player has excelled both in sports and academics. In spite of playing for the country, he has secured distinction in Mechanical Engineering.


ARJUNA AWARDEE. CHETAN BABOOR, the International Table Tennis player has also brought laurels to the college. He represented India in Barcelona Olympics 1992 and subsequently represented the country in many international events.

Ekalavya awardee Miss. Pooja R Alva, the International Swimmer has also brought laurels to the college. She has represented INDIA in Commonwealth Games 2010 and subsequently representing the Country in many International events.

Mr. Srinivas, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh have represented India in Basket Ball, in the year 1988-89&1989-90respectively.

Department of sports has been responsible for instituting a good sports culture in the college. Every year, college organizes many Invitational & university events in the college campus.

  • Sri Chamaraju Memorial Inter Collegiate Cricket Tournament, a highly prestigious and most awaited cricket tournament for all the V.T.U affiliated colleges.
  • MOMENTUM-Inter Collegiate Foot Ball (M), Basketball (M & W), Shuttle Badminton (M & W ), Kho-Kho (M), Volleyball (M) Tournaments.
  • Sri D.A Pandu Memorial Tennis Tournamen (M &W)t is also organized every year.

    Many students of R.V.College of Engineering (RVCE) have represented the state & V.T.U in sports like Shuttle Badminton, Cricket, Basket Ball, Table Tennis, Tennis, Swimming, Hand Ball, Chess, Ball Badminton, Volley Ball, Kho-Kho, Hockey, Cross Country and Athletics.

Physical Education & Sports

Physical education-is an integral part of educational programme designed to promote the optimum development of an individual. It makes one emotionally, mentally and physically strong. The primary aims of physical education have varied, based on the needs of the time and place. Sport is commonly defined as an organized, competitive and skillful physical activity requiring commitment and fair play.



Scholarships and Awards

 

• Admission:

Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust (RSST), the institution's management is considerate in giving seats for sportsperson who have represented state at junior and senior level.

• Scholarships and awards :

a. Students of first year , who are selected to represents the VTU team are given blazer. For the second year of representation they are given a cash prize of Rs 2,500.00, in the third year Rs.3000.00 and Fourth year Rs.3500.00 from the university.
b. Students who are winning in the Inter university competitions are given a cash award of Rs. 12000.00 for First place, Rs. 10000.00 for obtaining second place. While the Third place and fourth place winners are given Rs.7500.00 and Rs.1000.00 respectively.
c. RVCE awards Rs 1500.00 for University representation, Rs 2500.00 for State representation & Rs 5000.00 for National and International level.
d. RSST also Honors the sports persons for University representation and All-India representations.


• Placement :

Many companies give additional credits and preference to sports persons during campus recruitment.

• Sports wear :

All the students representing the college in various sports & games are given the suitable sports wear.

• Medical facilities :

The institution bears the medical expenses if any sports person is injured while representing the institution.


Infrastructure Facility


 

RVCE can boast of the following sports facilities meeting the national standards:

  • Cricket Field: Cricket is one of the popular games of the country. The campus has a play ground of 6400 Sq m.
  • Tennis Courts: Two synthetic courts of international standards have been laid with appropriate lighting facilities.
  • Basket Ball court: An indoor basketball court with galleries exists on campus. Many Varsity, Inter Collegiate tournaments are conducted here. The stadium is having movable posts. The court has a dimension of 450 Sq mtr & can accommodate 350 people.
  • Shuttle Badminton: Indoor wooden court is always open for students and staff.
  • Foot Ball: A new field area of 6300 Sq.mtr. for Foot Ball, Hockey, Athletics & other events are located adjoining the Architecture Block.
  • Volley Ball: The volley ball court is located next to the Tennis Courts & is in front of New Sports Complex.
  • Table Tennis: It is a popular game in the campus. There are four Tables to cater to the need of students.
  • Multi Gym : Started in 1980-81. It is the main attraction for the students& is located in the New Sports Complex. It has all modern 12 station equipments. Students can make use of this facility even during their leisure and keep themselves FIT and HEALTHY.
